2024-September-14 (Sat) - 2024-September-15 (Sun)
Location: 9/14 TECO Cultural Center Auditorium; 9/15 Formosa Plastics Guest House
We’re excited to announce that the 113th Double Ten celebrations will kick off with a special performance by the Honwa Dance Troupe from Taiwan, highlighting the rich Hakka culture right here in the Houston area!
Founded in 1999, the Honwa Dance Troupe has over 20 talented professional dancers. Their mission is to celebrate and innovate ethnic dance, showcasing the beauty of Taiwan’s local culture. The troupe has proudly represented Taiwan on stages across the globe.
The Houston performances will feature:
- “Blue Shirt Shadow”
- A journey through time, as the blue shirt symbolizes the connection of Hakka people across the world, spreading its legacy far and wide.
- “Tea Mountain Romance”
- A heartwarming duet between a young couple in the tea mountains, their songs echoing with love and affection.
- “Hakka Essence”
- A powerful portrayal of the migration from Tangshan to Taiwan, capturing the determination and hard work of those who cultivated the land.
- “The Blooming Tung Blossoms”
- Tung Blossom Festival is coming and blossoms are falling all around. Tung blossoms as white as snow are on the branches, with clouds and by mountains, just like in a drawing. When they fall, it comes another springtime.
- “Hakka Heroes”
- Hakka brave young men don’t dread any hardship. They have gone through a variety of toilsome and have minds filled with years of bitterness in their lives. Heroes are cultivated from childhood.
- “The Charm of Tulou”
- The Hakka lifestyle in Tulou (Earth building) is simple. Day after day, assisting one another, villagers live on raising livestock and poultry and go to work with gunny bags on their backs. Instead of complaining, they gladly endure the hardships.
